Answers to frequently asked questions.
What will the sessions be like?
Our first session is completing paperwork and gathering information about your past and current issues that bring you to therapy. It is also an opportunity for you to ask me questions. I am trained in various kinds of therapy and we will always discuss interventions before starting, ensuring that you are comfortable and confident. With children and teens, we may start by playing a game or listening to music; whatever he/she feels comfortable with, in order to build a strong therapeutic foundation. Therapy can look very different for each individual.
I’m not sure if I need therapy. How can it help me?
Therapy can be helpful whether you are in current crisis, or just feeling stuck in some area of your life. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to and gain an outside perspective! Because of this, I base my sessions on the needs of each client. Some benefits that many of my clients gain include:
Clarity in relationships and work
A sense of relief and peace
Skills for coping/concentration/relaxation
Improved communication with others
Less anxiety about the future
How do I talk to a stranger about personal things? Won’t it be weird?
I won’t lie, the thought of sharing with a stranger can be daunting. However, both my training and my natural personality usually cause this issue to pass very quickly. Often sharing with someone outside of your circle can be quite liberating, as I have no agenda or prior bias.
Can I use my insurance?
I accept some insurances, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Behavioral Healthcare, and Meridian, among others. If I do not accept your insurance, we may be able to work “out of network”. This opportunity can be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If you choose not to use insurance, a 60-minute session is $120.00.
How long does therapy last?
It is impossible to gauge how long therapy will last as each person and situation is unique. The kinds of therapy I utilize are shown to provide results fairly quickly, however completion of therapy can range from one month to a few years.
I want the best for my child.
How do I know if that is you?
This is completely understandable and I will work with parents to determine at the start of therapy whether or not my unique skills are a great fit for your child. I have years of experience working with children on a range of issues and it is my passion to help children in ways that engage them as well as their families.
